Petone Physiotherapy provide the local community with pilates classes and a falls prevention/arthritis class, run by our physiotherapists to ensure safety and attention to individual needs

Pilates

The benefits of pilates are much more than just core strength and flexibility. Regular practice of pilates can also help improve pain, increase cardiovascular fitness, improve bone density, and enhance muscular balance and control, for an overall better quality of life.

We offer classes several days a week at the clinic, run by one of our physiotherapists. Concessions can be purchased from reception; small group classes are paid for on a term basis (10-12 weeks) and larger group classes are either pay as you go or you can purchase a 10 trip concession card. For newcomers, we offer one free session, after which you can purchase a concession. Catch up sessions will be provided if the physiotherapist is away or unwell and a replacement physiotherapist is unable to take over.

Classes are 60 minutes long, and range from beginner to moderate level classes, including larger mixed group sessions. Ability can be accommodated for on an individual basis. Exercises are mat based, and may include the use of various pieces of equipment including resistance band, weights, and rings.

If there are no spaces available in our classes, feel free to leave us an expression of interest with your name and contact details, and we can contact you when a space becomes available.

Falls Prevention/Arthritis

Research has shown over the years that exercise can be extremely beneficial for older adults who experience problems with their balance, or with symptoms associated with arthritis.

At Petone Physio, we provide a class once a week, focusing on small group exercise aimed at strengthening limbs and restoring balance, as well as improving fitness. The class is 40-45 minutes long, and uses a circuit of varied exercises to target different areas. Each participant has their balance assessed, which allows the physiotherapist to recommend exercises to better improve key areas such as strength, balance and fitness.

Concessions to the classes can be purchased and allows for 10 sessions within a 3 month period, or you can pay as you go. Classes are held on a Friday between 11am to 12pm. We recommend that all participants attend for at least 10 weeks for maximum benefit.

If you would like to try the class, we are currently taking expressions of interest with your name and contact details. Our reception team will be able to book you in for an assessment and discussion with our physiotherapist about the class and whether it is right for you. 

Our Falls Prevention and Osteoarthritis class is a Live Stronger For Longer approved community strength and balance programme, a joint initiative by ACC, Ministry of Health, and the Health Quality and Safety Commission.
